The Banking Association of San Marino has positioned itself as a key player in the reform process of the banking system, acting as a technical and institutional facilitator for the objectives to be pursued. In this context, the Association actively collaborates on the agenda of structural reforms and particularly engages in in-depth discussions with the Central Bank and Government Authorities to address the challenges of the Sammarinese financial system, focusing on strategic approaches, potential solutions, and international interlocutors to advance necessary collaborative efforts.
Among the priorities identified, ABS has championed a reform process to facilitate the management and recovery of non-performing loans, leading to the enactment of securitization legislation and initiating the implementation of a bespoke solution. With the contribution of J.P. Morgan as the arranger, this involves setting up a multi-originator operation with a systemic character.
Another key focus of ABS’s work program is the internalization of the system. Particular interest is paid to the ongoing Association Agreement negotiations with the EU, and with it, the opening of the reference market as well as the opportunity to attract investments and advanced knowledge resources to be applied in the provision of high-value financial services on an international scale.
Meanwhile, significant progress has been made in the field of modern payment services, while the system is increasingly focusing on the green economy and digital transition.
Finally, recognizing the importance of training in the dynamics of growth and internationalization of the system, the Association has intensified its offerings by promoting and organizing dedicated courses for continuous updating of members of the administrative and control bodies, as well as staff of LISF authorized entities. Priority topics addressed with the support of esteemed university professors, professionals, and supervisory authorities include regulatory innovations, focusing on international best practices, ecological transition, and digitalization.
